Written Reflective Letter--due Nov 19
To complete your Inquiry 4, I ask that you provide a thoughtful letter that explains and elaborates the video you compose. Your reflection should be around 750 words, detailing your rhetorical moves, remediation strategies, and process. In your letter, it may be useful to identify key moments of the video by using the time stamp on the video. For example, “At around 1:20, I chose to include an image of x, because I wanted to get the effect of y.”
As mentioned from the outset, this inquiry is more about making rhetorical choices based on certain criteria you establish throughout the process of composing than producing a professional-grade video.
Explain Your Rhetorical Choices
Your letter should provide a rationale for the rhetorical choices you make as a video composer. Being as specific as possible, you should indicate how the choices you made affect the overall message of the video. For example, what does including soft music do? Or what does using a certain type of font do?
Explain How Your Video Remediates Inquiry 3
Your letter should explain how your initial alphabetic argument underwent changes as you composed the video for Inquiry 4. Did you rethink your audience? Did you reframe your argument? Do you explore one aspect of your argument?
As an important corollary question, then, you should also explain how your video diverges from your inquiry 3. How do the affordances of video allow you to make the argument differently?
Explain Your Process
As with letters’ past, you should reflect upon the process of making this video. How did the initial planning stage go? Did peer response help expand your video or make it more effective? Logistically, what setbacks did you encounter? If your video didn’t pan out quite the way you imagined it, explain why.
Explain Anything Else That You Think a Viewer Needs to Know
Be sure to indicate information your viewers and I need to know. For example, are you working within the constraints of a particular genre? Why did you choose to approach the inquiry through these constraints?
